  Introduction

Mr. Henry Quek

Far Ocean Sea Products (Pte) Ltd was established on 14th October 1971 by our founding chairman Mr. Quek Check Boon, the late father of our Managing Director, Mr. Henry Quek.

Over the last 30 plus years, under the able leadership and far sighted strategies of the management coupled with a team of dedicated workforce, Far Ocean has grown steadily from a small fish mill to its current position as a leading Seafood trader and producer not just in Singapore but also in the Asian region.

With strong financial reserves and a fully integrated system of equipments & processes our dedicated team’s ability was further enhanced to constantly meet the often complex demands & expectations of our customers.

Our Footprints
Through the early years after Far Ocean’s establishment in 1971, our late founding Chairman, Mr. Quek Cheok Boon with great hind sight saw the tremendous potential in the seafood industry. As a result, Kiang Huat Sea Products was set up in 1980, managed by his youngest son, Mr. Henry Quek (our present Managing Director), focusing then on the auctioning of a wide variety of seafood supplied mainly by Thai Trawlers at the Jurong Fish Market.

In the late 1980s, the fish mill processing business was starting to lose its competitive edge owing to raw materials shortages. The management was quick in changing & aligning our business strategy to focus on seafood trading which has since then become our mainstream business.

The business expanded further into trading mainly “Frozen on Board” products from trawlers in the Australian and Indonesian waters. The products were packed and re-exported to China, Middles-East and Malaysia leading to a substantial growth of 67% sales turnover in 1989.

To benefit from the economies of scale, in the early 90s, Kiang Huat merged into Far Ocean Sea Products (Pte) Ltd along with an investment of about S$4 million for the building of a new factory with cold storage facilities at 25 Fishery Port Road which was completed in 1993. The Company saw a further increase of sales turnover by 90% in 1998.

In 1997, Far Ocean further extended and upgraded the factory facilities at 25 Fishery Port Road to cover a total area of 4143 sq.m with a built-up area of 2716 sq.m. This comprised of cold-storage capacities of 1500 tons and a 420 sq.m. processing area. With this extension, the company in 1998 begins to venture into the long-line seafood business.

With the beginning of a new millennium necessitated that the company continuously explore new avenues and opportunities to improve its operations and business coverage. In 2003, Far Ocean acquired additional plant facilities with state-of-the-art equipments and a private wharf at 15 Fishery Port Road.

This strategic move enabled the company to become the largest one-stop “long-line fishes” processing factory in the region. Further competitive advantages and improved capacities to process seafood were achieved and this further strengthened our exports business to the USA and European Markets. The acquisition of the new plant also lead to a broadening and further development of our customers’ bases in not just the USA and Southern Europe markets, but also Canada, South America, China, Northern Europe, Australia and the Asian Pacific Regions.

Towards the end of 2004, the company yet embarked on a re-building and expansion of our factory and cold-storage facilities at 15 Fishery Port Road. The expanded new plant was completed in early 2006.
